Happy partyin'

Cheers,

party week...

Yesterday, we had a New Year's party hosted by our company. The party was at MegaBowl, just in front of the Bangalore airport.
So, we left from office at 5pm and reached there at abt 5.45pm.
We had a gala time there, played bowling for abt 2 hours and then, some other games too.... Afterwards, we had a dj playing some cool music, so danced to those tunes, and atlast a good dinner too....
hmm... had loads of fun partying yesterday...

Last Monday too, we had a Christmas party in a place called Zero G(ravity). Had a nice time there too...

Today, couple of my friends have come to Bangalore and we've planned to go out somewhere for the New year.. lets see how it goes on....

Oh no.. not again!!!

Today, fresh warnings have come that the tsunami can strike the coastal regions of Tamilnadu, Kerala, Andamans again.... So, all the people who were within 2 kms of the coast have been moved to safer places. But, I badly pray that it doesn't happen again lest that will hamper the relief works and create more panic between the people.
Lets pray that nothing happens today....

All that I'm hearing for the past 2 days is about the tsunami disaster in Asia. The toll reached 68,000 today (about 12,000 in India alone) and still rising... but, relief measures are pouring in from all sides. Even in our office, we have a club called IBM Club... which does lots of activities and celebrations, but also plays a big
part when such disasters occur... We are collecting all possible resources from our company and the club, which is working with Red Cross Society in India, is taking steps so that all these resources reach the sites as soon as possible.
Good work guys....

The Nation needs us, the people need us.... so, come on friends... lets do our little bit to brighten the lives of the people in need....

Nature's fury...

My heart goes out for all the people in the South East Asian regions, who have lost their lives, their loved-ones and belongings.... and have been rendered homeless.... due to the earthquake and tsunami which struck the costal regions of South East Asia.

I'm really struggling to write this article. What I've witnessed in the television yesterday was really unbelievable... unimaginable.... I called my friends in Chennai immediately and checked with them regarding their status.

The tsunami which was caused by the earthquake hitting the Indonesian islands (measuring 8.9 in Richter scale) has wreaked havoc in the Southern coastal regions of India, especially in Tamilnadu and Andaman Islands. As of today, the toll is around 7000 people in India alone and around 25,000 all over South East Asia, and expected to go up...

Is this the nature's way to hit upon us for the injustice thats happening all over the world? I really donno.. but, one thing I know for sure.... it'll take many more days or months probably for us to be back to our normal lives...

Every year something or the other happens to India... if its not the Gujarat earthquake, it'll be a Kargil war... and now its this so-called Tsunami, which I believe is the first time in India... So, is this an indication of anything??? Is this what the religious books term as "Kaliyug"? God alone can answer this...

Whatever relief funds, food and measures we take now, will those be enough to bring back just a "smile" in those people's face who have lost their dear ones and all their life's earnings?
Thats the harsh realities of life.
But, we as Indians, or rather as humans, should be kind enough to do our bit for those people in whatever way we could. Atleast we should try to show them that this is not the end for them...
Lets stand united to face these harsh realities of life...

christmas time...

Its christmas time..... We had loads of fun in the office... some christmas celebrations happenend in the office.. and we enjoyed it alot..
I'm really happy today coz I happened to chat with my close buddies after a long time...

Yesterday, I went to see Oceans Twelve... wanted to see this movie for a long time coz I liked the first one very much.
The film was good.... the first half was very funny.. some dialogues were really funny and interesting.. but , the film got lots of twists and turns in the end.... so, the second half was not upto the mark..
Altogether, this is a good film but the first one Oceans Eleven is better than this....

So, Christmas weekend ahead.....
Merry X'Mas to all...
have a blasting weekend....

Whats happening to me!!! I feel I'm really going mad :((
Things are not going on well today and thats what making me think like this...Today, our US Manager was supposed to come to visit us but he was held-up in some other work and so couldn't make it to our office.... So, all the work I did today morning was a waste..... work in the sense.. am not talking abt programming work... am talking abt getting early in the morning, having a clean shave, wearing full formal clothes and even polishing my shoes...after a long time :)
We, in our project, thought since it was his first visit to India, we need to make is as much professional as possible and impress him both in work and ethics....

Then, I thought I would take some e-learning trainings that I had enrolled for... But, they were too boring after sometime... and now here I'm sitting and typing somethin' in my blog...
Am I getting a headache??? Need to go home and have a good sleep...

Whats an Idiot???

Swades... saw this film on Saturday.... the second day of its release... was waiting for its release..... and it was a worthy wait..... really impressive....

I read the reviews of the film on Friday in rediff. The review was not that good and they said all that the film does is preaching.... and it could have been better termed as a documentary than a commercial film..I had that in my mind while I went to the theatre, and in a way, I didn't keep much expectations cos of this... but, after watching the film, I felt that the reviewer was wrong.... First of all, comparing it with Lagaan is wrong.. thats what I thought.. Both the films are entirely different in their own level..... but I do agree that not everyone would like this film. It varies from people to people, depending on their mindsets.

Nowadays, almost all commercial films are focussed only on some slapstick comedies, skin shows, item numbers... So, finding films like Swades is really refreshing... and Ashutosh has made a sincere effort to send out a message to the audiences..
Its the story of NRI Mohan Bhargav(Shah Rukh), a NASA scientist, who returns to India to find his nanny... He lands up in a village and see that the village is still very much underdeveloped.. The luxurious life he had in America and the life in his nanny's village Charanpur were exactly opposite.... which faced with poverty, caste system, illiteracy, child labour, lack of electricity and what not!!!He felt a sense of responsibility and did his bit to improve the village..... Ultimately, he decides that this is his place and he'd be happy living here and doing his bit for his country rather than leading a luxurious life in the US....

The reasons for my liking......

-- the story was inspiring and it was really a good try by Ashutosh to bring the message out to the audience... Home is the best place for everyone to live and its upto us to make this country a better place to live... so, we should take up the responsibility.
-- Shah Rukh's performance is awesome... great.... asusual..
-- Gayathri Joshi, as Shah Rukh's love interest, is really a ravishing beauty.. couldn't take my eye's off her when she is on the screen ;-))
-- The music by AR.Rehman is simply great, again asusual...
-- I thought if this film inspires atleast a handful of people, Ashutosh has done his job well.... and I'm sure its not just a handful of people who'll be inspired....

There were also some low points in this movie... like all other movies...

-- producing electricity by building a reservoir in such quick time.. thats too much to digest....
-- was dragging in the second half, after a very good first half...

But, altogether... I give full marks for this film... despite its box office outcome...
My weekend was very good... I had a wonderful time....Friday, I went to see the dermatologist for my problem with pimples. He told me its just that sometimes we get some infections with pimples.. and thats why the one in my face got bigger n bigger.... anyway, he cleaned the pus (yuck!!!) and asked me to take a couple of medicines... and its working!!! :)Atlast, I'm happy to get rid of those....

I went to see Swades on Saturday night.... in PVR cine complex...Great movie.. I'm really happy to see Ashutosh Gowariker making such a wonderful movie... I'll write more abt the movie.. in my next blog..

Yesterday my friend, who had come back from Australia after completing his MS degree, had an interview in a MNC company here.... so, went there with him and am happy that he got thro' the interviews and got the offer letter.... And know what, we both had been to see Swades.. second show the previous night and came back , slept for a couple of hours, got up and got ready to go to the company for the interview.... hmm... great...

Then, am really excited that my sister is coming down to India from US for a vacation... next month... am eagerly waiting to see her and my nephew.... My parents are counting the days off :) But, my brother-in-law would be able to join us only a couple of months later... lots to catch up with them...

Ok, guess time to go home now... tomorrow, our business area manager from US is coming on a visit to India. He is coming to our office to check out how our project is going on..... so, gotta get ready for that...

Not well :((

I'm not feeling well for the past few days... I started getting lots of pimples last week and suddenly there were a couple of boils or something which started growing very big.. I've planned to go to a dermatologist today coz I suspect that there might be some sort of insect bite or allergy which caused this... So, I'm not in the best of spirits lately coz of this... got to regather myself...Yesterday, I left early from office to the doctor, but by the time I reached the hospital, the visiting times were over :(So, got to go much earlier today.....But, coz of this, I went to the PVR theatre complex in Forum Mall and booked tickets for Saturday night Swades (Shah Rukh's new movie releasing today). Myself and my friend have planned to go there tomorrow night...

Today, the Indian cricketers too were at their best against the minnows Bangladesh... Rahul Dravid becoming the first batsman in Test history to score atleast one century in all the test playing countries. The Aussies are also tearing apart the Pakistanis in Perth.

Gotta go now... otherwise i'll miss the doctor today too :) Hope i'll get better this weekend... Have a blasting weekend...

Veer Zaara...

Its been quite sometime since i blogged....
last weekend.... I went to see Veer Zaara (starring Shah Rukh, Preity and Rani Mukherjee), a typical Yash Chopra movie....
My friends and myself went for second show at PVR Multiplex in Forum shopping mall. PVR multiplex is the largest multiplex in India having 11 screening theatres, opened just 2 weeks back...

As for the movie, Veer Zaara is quite an impressive movie. I enjoyed it alot.....
Its about how an Indian Punjabi guy - Veer(Shah Rukh) reunites with a Pakistani Muslim girl - Zaara(Preity) after being separated from her and jailed in Pakistan for 20+ years...
Rani Mukherjee is the lawyer who fights for Shah Rukh's release and reunites her with Preity.
The small guest roles played by Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini were really great. The Punjabi language they spoke, the humour sense and acting of both were awesome... that was one of the best parts I liked in this movie...
Shah Rukh was asusual at his best, as also Rani Mukherjee.... Preity Zinta was stunning in the Pakistani look...
Its a movie worth watching, especially its a novel attempt in building friendship with Pakistan...
Hope the people in Pakistan will also love this movie...

The Victorious Indian cricket team with the trophy...

India won their first series of the season, a 1-0 test series victory against South Africa at home.

Victory.... Hail the Indian team...

Wow..... Atlast, India won the second test match cricket against the South Africans today.... Thank God, they saved their back :) coz playing against an inexperienced and weak South African team, they ought to win this one.. else whats the use in saying we are one among the best. Hats off to Bhaji.. for his great bowling and hats off to Kumble for equaling Kapil Dev for highest test wickets(434) in India....
I'm feeling happy today coz of this victory.

Then, yesterday I saw a hindi movie "Phir Milenge" which was aired in MTV, a special show for World AIDS Day. It was a really touching movie of how a girl struggles for regaining her job after being attacked by HIV virus... The movie shows that we should never discriminate those people who are HIV +ve. The director, Revathy has done a really good job.. Hats off to her....

Today is World AIDS Day. To create awareness among women about their vulnerability, the WHO and UNAIDS has dedicated World AIDS Day 2004 to 'Women, Children, HIV and Aids'
To end with, here is a quote on AIDS that I came across in the web...

"When I envision the future, I think of the
world I crave for my daughters and my sons.
It is thinking for survival of the species
----thinking for life "

If I were God...

If I were God, what change would I like to bring in this world?
One change I'd definitely like to make is - each baby born in this world should be given the same style of life and basic education. Then, based on one's individual talents and interests, he/she can pursue their higher studies or establish business of their own choice and dictate the rest of their life themselves from there on....

This change I'd like to see because I see alot of differences in this world.... some children yearn to study but don't have enough chance to do so, or rather than saying no chances, its better to say they don't have any other choice left than to work and earn their bread at a young age.
I used to think why there is such a lot of differences between each and everyones lifestyle.... Whenever I see a boy cleaning the tables in hotels, I used to think what wrong did he do that he is unable to lead a normal life, studying and playing with children of his age....

One incident which affected me alot and prompted me to write about this is- a boy, who's working for daily wages, looking longingly at another boy of the same age playing with his toys and his parents pampering him...
I'd never ever like to see such a scene even in movies... coz that is really unfair. If the boy was given enough chances to study and just a little bit of encouragement, he'd have gone to become the next Edison or the next Ramanujam, who knows.... But, even after that, if he doesn't fare well, then he lacks talent and we have no complains on that coz we gave him enough chances.I feel each individual should be given a chance atleast in terms of the basic education... then its left to him/her to take their life to higher level based on the talents they have.

But I know, God has got his own reasons for creating us like that. So, instead of just grumbling like this, I thought what can I do as an individual to change this situation. Let me see what I can do for this and I'm gonna do something for this cause... its not that I discuss about this and leave it as such... then, there is no reason for me to talk about this...
Anyone out there reading this..... please take time to think about this and do your best for this cause... Thank you...

Costly Weekend :(

The past weekend was a costly one for me... I went to a shopping mall with my friend, but didn't have any plans to buy anything. But, once there, I was tempted to do so on seeing a denim jacket.... Then, I ended up buying that and a pant too... Not just that, when I saw that there were some good offers 2+1 free on Universal cassettes, I bought them tooAfter coming home, I just told myself "Prasad, no more shopping for a couple of months atleast" :)

What am I going to write today!!!

I'm thinking.. thinking.. n thinking... for a long time..
Donno what I'm gonna write today...
I wanted to write abt the F.R.I.E.N.D.S series..... I love that series alot. I'm preparing an article on that. So, I thought I'd push that to a future blog.

Am listening to the Bryan Adam's song "I'll always be right there". What a fabulous song... its one of my fav Bryan Adam's number.... He really creates a magic with a simple acoustic guitar n fine lyrics...
Today, at work, we completed an important change request from the customer. So, all our hard work over the past few days have been paid...

Here in India, all people are talking about is either the Reliance groups' Ambani bros differences regarding the ownership or the Kanchi Seers arrest. And oh.... I forgot to mention another important issue.... regarding the Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly's fate regarding his 2 match suspension... if he receives this suspension, he won't be able to play the second test against the South Africans and that too in his home ground Eden Gardens....

Family

Today was yet another ordinary day for me. I was not happy with the way the India vs SA test match ended..... it was a very lacklustre game which ended in a draw...
Anyway, hoping the next match atleast will be interesting....
Ok then, today I came across this lovely article abt Family. So, thought of sharing it in my blog...
Here is the article..

F A M I L Y

I ran into a stranger as he passed by, "Oh excuse me please" was my reply.
He said, "Please excuse me too; I wasn't watching for you."
We were very polite, this stranger and I. We went on our way and we said good-bye

But at home a different story is told, How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal, My son stood beside me very still.
When I turned, I nearly knocked him down. "Move out of the way," I said with a frown.
He walked away, his little heart broken. I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed, God's still small voice came to me and said,
"While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy you use, but the family you love, you seem to abuse. Go and look on the kitchen floor, You'll find some flowers there by the door.
Those are the flowers he brought for you. He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.
He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise, you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small, And now my tears began to fall.
I quietly went and knelt by his bed; "Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.
"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree. I picked 'em because they're pretty like you. I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."
I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today; I shouldn't have yelled at you that way." He said, "Oh, Dad, that's okay. I love you anyway."
I said, "Son, I love you too, and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family, an unwise investment indeed, don't you think? So what is behind the story?
Do you know what the word FAMILY means? FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

Ok then... thats it for today....

Its ME!!!

Didn't have much to say today..... was a quite and uneventful day.....

Busyyyyyyyyyy.... the term I dislike alotttt..

BUSY is the term I always dislike..... I feel this word is too harsh...
I had a lots of work to do today at office... thinking.. coding.. thinking... and coding again.... I feel a very heavy head now.. need a good sleep.

I thought I won't be able to write here today, coz of my work.. But I thought, I'm not too BUSY to spare 10 mins of my time and pen my thoughts.... Thats how I came up with the idea of writing abt being BUSY....
Anyway, coming back to the point.... Loads of work does make me work alot of time, but that doesn't mean I'm too Busy for my friends, or my relatives... or any other activities that I enjoy doing..... If atall I don't get time to spend with my friends, I make it a point that I get to them someother day.....
Having loads of work, not able to finish it & taking the work to home... this I really hate....
If I do so, I'll be really stupid coz then I don't know the importance of Time management and also the importance of relaxing n enjoying......
One more thing, never ever say u r busy for anything.... Suppose if a friend calls u, or asks u out.... or such situation occurs.... and if u don't like that idea..... then, instead of neglecting that by saying u r busy.... u can outrightly tell him/her that u r not interested with that idea....
That will make ur friend sad only for sometime, but saying u r busy will only irritate ur friend... n can lead to a troubled relationship.....
Believe me.... I've felt that myself....

jus some points to sum it up.......
-- u r never busy for a friend
-- always manage ur work and don't take it home... it sucks....
-- try to enjoy life each and every moment of it......

My weekend was silent..... I met some of my friends, had some nice chit chats with them.....
watched some gud movies in star movies n hbo... like Oceans 11, XMen 2, Bad Company, American Pie 2...... had some gud sleep too....

Ok, let me go home and have a nice sleep......

Hurray.... Weekends here.... and Cricket toooooo....

And here comes the weekend.... after some busy days of work, I very much need this break. I've got some very busy working days ahead too. So, got to make the most of this weekend....
Am now listening to a Beegees number and enjoying the weekend mood in the office :)
Tomorrow the cricket match between India and South Africa starts.... so, i'll be glued on to the television.....
U know, I feel really strange when I watch the cricket matches.... The last series against the Aussies was a really bad one. And, during each and every match, I used to think... enuf of watchin' the same old Indian failure... but, the next day.... again I come and watch with the same enthusiasm... I also think I should never talk abt cricket to any of my friend after India loses a match.. but, again..... I can't stop myself..... I'll go lamenting abt India's failures...
And guess what.... when the next match starts.. things change.. i'll start talking abt India's chances of winning.... :))
I guess this is the feeling each and every Indian cricket buff is having... and this makes cricket in India - the most popular sport....
And all the Indian's out there... Chalo India.... lets support our team...
Best wishes for the South Africans too...
Ok then.... guys n gals out there.. have a blasting weekend...

My first article....

Ahm.... let me introduce myself......
I'm Prasad Raghunandhanan, young and dynamic fellow(am I praising myself alot!!!) working as a software engineer in a reputed MNC in Bangalore, India.....
I'm from the beautiful state of Kerala, popularly called as "God's Own Country"

I luv music alot..... this is one thing that keeps me going on and on and on....
The next thing I like is sports... and that too cricket.. I know the Indian team is going through a very rough patch now...... yet, I can't stop myself from watching cricket...
Great were those days when I used to play cricket with my friends in whatever little space we used to get. But, now all those vacant spaces are replaced by new buildings....

Today I created this new blog for me so that I can post my views of certain things that happen in the world. Being from a very conservative family in India, I've grown up with some cultural values and follow certain traditions.... But, once I passed out of college and started working, I am now largely influenced by the Westernized cultures (asusual, this is one thing that the youth of India are really falling for... and I'm sure I'm not the latest victim :-))
I keep thinking many a times..... am I loosing my traditional values and culture???
This is a question that ponders my mind many a times...... But, I slowly found out that however modern I try to be, I'll still have the traits of Indian-ness somewhere deep in my heart....
Anyway, I think there are lots of issues like this which I'd like to think and write more, about what I feel regarding these issues........

Ok then, let me stop for now......
Will think about some issue to write on for the next article.... this is just a starter :))

~Smile~
