Swades.. Yeh jo des hai....

Swades... saw this film on Saturday.... the second day of its release... was waiting for its release..... and it was a worthy wait..... really impressive....

I read the reviews of the film on Friday in rediff. The review was not that good and they said all that the film does is preaching.... and it could have been better termed as a documentary than a commercial film..I had that in my mind while I went to the theatre, and in a way, I didn't keep much expectations cos of this... but, after watching the film, I felt that the reviewer was wrong.... First of all, comparing it with Lagaan is wrong.. thats what I thought.. Both the films are entirely different in their own level..... but I do agree that not everyone would like this film. It varies from people to people, depending on their mindsets.

Nowadays, almost all commercial films are focussed only on some slapstick comedies, skin shows, item numbers... So, finding films like Swades is really refreshing... and Ashutosh has made a sincere effort to send out a message to the audiences..
Its the story of NRI Mohan Bhargav(Shah Rukh), a NASA scientist, who returns to India to find his nanny... He lands up in a village and see that the village is still very much underdeveloped.. The luxurious life he had in America and the life in his nanny's village Charanpur were exactly opposite.... which faced with poverty, caste system, illiteracy, child labour, lack of electricity and what not!!!He felt a sense of responsibility and did his bit to improve the village..... Ultimately, he decides that this is his place and he'd be happy living here and doing his bit for his country rather than leading a luxurious life in the US....

The reasons for my liking......

-- the story was inspiring and it was really a good try by Ashutosh to bring the message out to the audience... Home is the best place for everyone to live and its upto us to make this country a better place to live... so, we should take up the responsibility.
-- Shah Rukh's performance is awesome... great.... asusual..
-- Gayathri Joshi, as Shah Rukh's love interest, is really a ravishing beauty.. couldn't take my eye's off her when she is on the screen ;-))
-- The music by AR.Rehman is simply great, again asusual...
-- I thought if this film inspires atleast a handful of people, Ashutosh has done his job well.... and I'm sure its not just a handful of people who'll be inspired....

There were also some low points in this movie... like all other movies...

-- producing electricity by building a reservoir in such quick time.. thats too much to digest....
-- was dragging in the second half, after a very good first half...

But, altogether... I give full marks for this film... despite its box office outcome...
